Minigore 3.9 Update Boasts Retina Enhanced Graphics (Kind of), and a New Icon

Published at 5:35 PM in , , ,

Mountain Sheep has just released an update to their wildly popular Minigore game. This update comes complete with a new icon, retina enhanced graphics, and more.

The Minigore website states this "The update adds support for retina display and faster frame rate on iPhone 3Gs, iPod touch 3rd gen, iPhone 4 and iPod touch 4.", however having played the game for a little while I can confirm that the retina enhanced graphics only apply to the iPhone 4. However, reports have been made, claiming that the update does not even work for the iPhone 4. As one gamer put it "I have an iPhone 4 and the game looks just like it did previously on 3GS. Do the devs not test to see if this stuff works...?" The faster frame rate, however, applies to every aspect of the game and does hold true for the newer devices (All but the new iPod Touch, read further for explanation), as everything runs much smoother than version 3.8. Sadly this update will only work for the iPhone 4 (Graphics wise) and every other device other than the iPod Touch 4g (Frame rate wise), so it's not worth it, at this point, to update at all.

Update:

Developers post on TouchArcade: "...It works fine on my iPhone 4. If you take screenshot by holding down the power button then pressing home button what size image does it save? If it works it should save 960x640 pixel image, if it didn't the image size will be 480x320 pixels. [The] iPod touch 4 was introduced around the time when we submitted the update and it seems like the higher resolution doesn't activate on it. We don't yet have iPod touch 4 at the office to test the game with but it should be quite easy to add support for it. Technically it's more than capable of running the new resolution & frame rate."

From the Minigore blog: "We don't have iPod touch 4 at the office yet - it seems like the hires mode doesn't activate on it, also it's possible the faster frame rate doesn't activate either. This update was submitted around the time when iPod touch 4 was introduced so it's gonna need a new update to add support for it."

In response to the developers post: "retina update eh? icon, main character, enemy, and some plants....what blur(still): dual controller, main menu, all font, pause button, pause menu, score font, maps option, character option, main option"

We have noticed the same thing on the iPhone 4, so is it really retina display optimized? You be the judge, we don't consider it to be.
