Fruit Ninja: Game Center Multiplayer Update Is Live

Just released today is a new update to Halfbrick's insanely addictive Fruit Ninja which allows users to play one another via a new Multiplayer Update available through Game Center.

In update 1.4 Halfbrick has updated Fruit Ninja to allow a multiplayer game type via Apple's Game Center. If you have ever played Fruit Ninja before then the rules should be simple to understand, if you haven't played Fruit Ninja Before then the rules should still be simple to understand. Your brought to a Game Center lobby where you can choose a friend to challenge or play against a random opponent. There are two rules to this game mode. The first, only slice the blue bordered fruit, and the white bordered fruit. Second, don't slice the red bordered fruit!

The blue bordered fruit are your own, and just like the other game modes, slicing 3 or more in one swipe will give your a combo bonus. The white bordered fruit are for anyone to slice, so be quick and try to slice it first, as it grants 3x as many points compared to your fruit. (3 points for the white bordered fruit, and 1 point for the blue bordered fruit). The red bordered fruit are your opponents and slicing these will deduct 3 points from your score for every fruit sliced. Now in order to win the match, you have to make sure that your score is higher than your opponents after one minute. After each match you are taken to a post-game area that allows you to either schedule a rematch, post your win/loss to Twitter and Facebook, or quit.

This update also includes a retina display enhanced icon, increasing the resolution to 114px by 114px. I found it to be a bother that the game itself was retina display friendly but the icon was not. Halfbrick has also promised to continue updating the game with more Sensei's Swag items, and hints that the secret banana mode is "nearing completion".

Having Openfeint and Game Center in one app, may seem like overkill, and complicated. However Halfbrick has evenly balanced out each social platform to work well along side each other. When entering the app you recieve messages from both Openfeint and Game Center, and the Openfeint menu is still accesible from within the app. You can choose to disable on of the social services but keep in mind that multiplayer only works with Game Center. If you haven't done so already, make sure you head over to iTunes and download the new update. There will be a link below if you have yet to purchase Fruit Ninja.
