Cubotronic 3D: A Highly Original Puzzle Game That's Not To Be Missed

Remember back in the day when you'd jumble up your Rubiks cube, only to get frustrated and rearrange the stickers? Well Maystorm Games' Cubotronic 3D gives the same feeling. Although it is NOT a Rubiks cube, the game puts a nice spin on the strategy genre.

In the early stages you're left in control of five, 3 by 3 tiles, one in the center with four additional ones surrounding it. Placed on four of these are cubes arranged in different patterns.

When you tap on one of these sections, a menu appears, revealing two different routes the player may take: the upper or lower. After inputting the sequence, the platforms will take their turns converging onto the center. If you made the right decisions, all the cubes will align and you are sent on to the next level. You may pinch/squeeze to zoom in or out and rotate the camera angle 360°around the platforms. As the levels go on and the amount of cubes increase, you'll spend what feels like forever getting the right path.

The gameplay is fairly repetitive, but gets a lot more fun in the latter levels when the patterns take many tries to finally conquer. I found myself playing the same level for close to thirty minutes trying to get that one move correct, or trying to remember what I screwed up last time. The graphics are simple, but not too shabby as to turn gamers off. The overall theme seems to coincide with the name of the game, in-fact the theme should be called Cubotronic. The frame rate was amazing on the 3rd Gen iPod Touch (8 gig) and I was unable to see any graphical hiccups whatsoever, when playing. With ten diffrent stages and 100+ levels, at only $.99, you'll have hours of fun for a good price.
