Gamelofts 'Real Soccer 2011' is definitely better than the previous games, but still does little to improve gameplay.
Having played soccer all of my life, I am very judgmental towards games that claim to be "the best of the best" I look for a game that provides the best gameplay, best graphics, and best atmosphere. Gamelofts 'Real Soccer 2011' actually lives up to those expectations. Gameloft has definitely bettered the Real Soccer name, however, they seemed to have focused more on graphics and animations rather than actual gameplay mechanics this time around. All the same game modes remain, Exhibition, Enter the Legend, Cup, League, and Penalty Kicks. A few new game modes have been added as well; Season Club Master, RS League, and History. In Season Club Master, you manage a team for a whole league season. In the season there are three competitions for your team; league, cup and champion events. The top two teams are promoted to a higher league.
You can also transfer players in the off-season. RS League pits you against players from all around the world. Pick your team and challenge the 322 other teams. Each match allows you to collect points. After each match you can submit your total score online. History mode allows you to play matches that have occurred in past EU and International Cup tournaments. Such matches as, '06 Int'l Cup, Eighth final, or the '07 EU Club Cup Quarterfinal. So if you were disappointed with the outcome of those matches, then you can take control and do what the players should have. The 'Editor' mode allows you to edit team rosters, and create the best team ever made, or the worst team, depending on your plans.
The price is set at $4.99 USD and after playing the game for a long while, I can definitively say that this price is just right for the game. The increased graphic quality seems to be a cover in order to hide the fact that the game is lacking in some of the more important areas. As a die-hard soccer fan, pretty graphics and sparkles cannot make up for true gameplay mechanics, however, at $4.99 I cannot complain any further.
